Game of Thrones Season 1 is the first season of the popular fantasy drama television series. It premiered on HBO on April 17, 2011, and concluded on June 19, 2011, consisting of ten episodes, each approximately 55 minutes long. The season begins with members of the Night's Watch, who have betrayed their oath, encountering a horrifying creature that has not been seen for thousands of years. In the northernmost region of Westeros, the Night's Watch guards The Wall, which separates The Seven Kingdoms from the wilderness. They clash with the White Walkers, a race of supernatural beings resembling zombies, who have been at odds with humans for thousands of years. The core of the first season revolves around a civil war in Westeros, with each kingdom vying for the Iron Throne. Initially, three kingdoms are involved in the conflict, each representing a different family.

Main Actor and Cast Season 1 Game of Thrones

Sean Bean as Eddard "Ned" Stark

Eddard Stark, known as "Ned", leads House Stark, rules Winterfell, and serves as Warden of the North. He shares a strong bond with King Robert I Baratheon, having been raised alongside him. Eddard is a prominent point-of-view character in A Song of Ice and Fire.

Mark Addy as Robert Baratheon

King Robert I Baratheon, the seventeenth monarch, founded the Baratheon dynasty after winning the throne in Robert's Rebellion fueled by the alleged abduction of his betrothed, Lyanna Stark, by Prince Rhaegar Targaryen. His victory over Rhaegar at the Battle of the Trident secured his reign. Robert's marriage to Cersei Lannister aimed to strengthen his grip on the Seven Kingdoms through an alliance with House Lannister, but their relationship was devoid of affection due to Robert's mistreatment of Cersei, marked by secrets and betrayals.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister

Jaime Lannister was Lord Tywin Lannister's firstborn, the younger twin of Queen Cersei Lannister, and the elder sibling of Tyrion Lannister. He engaged in an incestuous affair with Cersei and, unbeknownst to many, fathered her three illegitimate offspring, Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen, along with her unborn baby.

Michelle Fairley as Catelyn Stark

Catelyn Stark, formerly known as Catelyn Tully, came from House Tully as the daughter of Hoster Tully, who was the Lord Paramount of the Trident. She was also the sister of Lysa and Edmure Tully, and married Eddard Stark, with whom she had five children.

Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister

Cersei was the eldest daughter of Lord Tywin and Lady Joanna Lannister. She was Jaime Lannister's older twin and Tyrion Lannister's older sister. Raised at Casterly Rock, she was famous for her exceptional beauty during her youth.

Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen

Queen Daenerys I Targaryen, also called Daenerys Stormborn, and fondly referred to as Dany, was King Aerys II Targaryen and Queen Rhaella's sole daughter, and the younger sibling of Rhaegar and Viserys Targaryen.

Iain Glen as Jorah Mormont

Ser Jorah Mormont, a former Northern noble from Westeros, had been living in Essos. He pledged loyalty to his fellow exile, Daenerys Targaryen, the Targaryen heir to the Iron Throne, and was the first to assist her in adjusting to her role as a khaleesi among the Dothraki.

Aidan Gillen Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish

Lord Petyr Baelish, also known as Littlefinger, served as the Master of Coin on the Small Council during the reigns of King Robert Baratheon and King Joffrey Baratheon. He was a skilled manipulator who utilized his ownership of brothels in King's Landing to amass great wealth and gather information on his political adversaries. Baelish's spy network was second only to that of his rival Varys. In his pursuit of power, he orchestrated a series of elaborate plots and assassinations that sparked the War of the Five Kings, resulting in widespread devastation and the downfall of several prominent noble families in Westeros.

Harry Lloyd as Viserys Targaryen

King Viserys I Targaryen, also known as Viserys the Peaceful, was the fifth monarch of the Targaryen dynasty to govern the Seven Kingdoms. He was the grandson of Jaehaerys I Targaryen and the father of Rhaenyra. During his youth, he briefly rode Balerion the Black Dread before the dragon's passing due to old age.

Kit Harington as Jon Snow

Jon Snow, also known as Aegon Targaryen, is the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, the former Prince of Dragonstone. Despite being raised alongside his half-siblings at Winterfell as Lord Eddard Stark's illegitimate son, Jon's true lineage as a Targaryen is concealed to safeguard him from those intent on wiping out House Targaryen.

Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark

Queen Sansa Stark is the firstborn child of Lord Eddard Stark and Lady Catelyn. She is the sister of Robb, Arya, Bran, and Rickon Stark, and Jon Snow is actually her cousin.

Maisie Williams as Arya Stark

Arya Stark is the third child and second daughter of Lord Eddard Stark and Lady Catelyn Stark. She is the sister of Sansa and Brandon, who currently rule as Queen in the North and King of the Andals and the First Men in Westeros.

Richard Madden as Robb Stark

King Robb Stark was the firstborn child of Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell and Lady Catelyn. After his father's death, Robb was proclaimed King in the North. He achieved victory in numerous battles against House Lannister but tragically met his demise, alongside his mother and their troops, at the Red Wedding.

Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy

Theon Greyjoy, the youngest son of King Balon Greyjoy of the Iron Islands, is the younger sibling of Rodrik, Maron, and Yara Greyjoy. After his father's unsuccessful rebellion against the Iron Throne, Theon becomes a ward under Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell.

Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark

Bran is undergoing training in leadership and combat from his father, brothers, and the castle's staff. He is deemed mature enough to witness the harsh realities of life, prompting his father to bring him to witness the execution of a deserter from the Night's Watch. The Starks stumble upon a litter of direwolf pups, leading Ned to reluctantly allow his children to adopt them as they are the symbol of their House. Bran eventually decides to name his direwolf Summer. King Robert Baratheon's entourage arrives at Winterfell, leading Ned to accept the role of the Hand of the King and to join Robert on his return to King's Landing, accompanied by Bran, Sansa, and Arya.

Jack Gleeson as Joffrey Baratheon

King Joffrey I Baratheon was the eighteenth ruler from the Iron Throne and the second monarch of the Baratheon lineage. Despite popular belief that he was the firstborn son of King Robert Baratheon and Queen Cersei Lannister, Joffrey is, in fact, an illegitimate child resulting from Cersei's affair with her twin brother Jaime Lannister. He is the elder sibling of Myrcella and Tommen Baratheon.

Rory McCann as Sandor "The Hound" Clegane

Sandor Clegane, also known as the Hound, served as the younger brother of Ser Gregor Clegane and the personal bodyguard of Prince Joffrey Baratheon. Upon Joffrey's rise to the Iron Throne, Sandor was appointed to his Kingsguard, despite not being a knight. He later abandoned his duties during the Battle of the Blackwater. Following his escape with Arya Stark, a near-fatal encounter with Brienne of Tarth, and a tragic incident involving a group of people he tried to aid, he reluctantly joined the Brotherhood Without Banners in search of a new purpose.

Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister

Tyrion Lannister's mother, Joanna Lannister, passed away during his birth, a sorrowful event that Tywin and Cersei unjustly hold against Tyrion. Due to his dwarfism, Tyrion endures ridicule and is labeled with disparaging terms like "Imp" and "Halfman," labels he attempts to accept to maintain his sense of self-worth. If a commoner had a child with dwarfism like Tyrion, they would have likely abandoned the infant in the wilderness to perish. Fortunately, being a Lannister granted Tyrion substantial riches and influence.

Jason Momoa as Khal Drogo

Drogo is a powerful warlord leading the fearsome Dothraki people, known for their combat skills and brutality. Despite their harsh ways, they follow a strict code of honor. Drogo, a revered undefeated warrior with a large following, desires the most beautiful woman as his wife, leading him to seek help from Magister Illyrio Mopatis for his quest.
